Citizens First: Connecting Punjab with 1905

Citizens First Connecting Punjab

We have all grown with the ever popular numbers of police and the fire brigade, but never had a single number for our day to day problems. The Punjab government last year came up with this unique initiative of having a dedicated helpline number 1905, which is today very popular among the citizens.

To add effectiveness to the helpline number, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal personally reviews its functioning on a fortnightly basis. A first of its kind project, the Deputy CM also calls up complainants to get a feedback, which ensures transparency in the entire mechanism.

This is not the only initiative by the Governance Reforms Department, which had earlier successfully launched the police helpline while the excise department helpline number had been welcomed by the business community. Meanwhile, another dedicated number had been launched for WhatsApp users to upload pictures and videos of anything they find needs attention of the concerned authorities.

The government has been taking measures to channelize communication of the general public with the Deputy Chief Minister who can also be reached through his email sukhbirsinghbadal@punjab.gov.in.

The launch of 1905 was to make life simpler for those sections of the society who cannot visit the public dealing offices like the NRI, children, women and the elderly. To enable people follow up on their complaints, they are given a unique ID. The number is available from Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 8 pm.

The website itself is self-sustaining (http://1905.Punjab.gov.in ), which is a single window platform for people to lodge any kind of complaints against the government/ departments.

This portal is unique as it allows people to post feedback about all departments. The system is effective as the complainant also gets a feedback through SMS or emails.

The website is user friendly as it is easy to navigate. On one side of the website one can have access to the entire procedure which has been explained well and all helpline numbers for any kind of assistance are also given.

There is a senior citizens corner and a citizens corner for lodging complaints and to view the status of their complaint. There is a separate login for government officials.

There is also a link to the mobile application on the website which gives the convenience of those using smartphones to lodge their complaints and get the status of their complaints. The app is available on Google Play and is downloadable free of cost.

The mobile application contains all the features of the 1905 web portal. It can not only take grievances from the people but also provide receipts of reports from departments and also updates on disposal of their grievances. There is a nodal officer for each department to monitor the 1905 helpline who is responsible for keeping a track of all the applications received and also their disposal by the concerned authorities.
